What is a Webinar
Kirsten Nelson-Johnson
A webinar is exactly what it sounds like, an abbreviation for a seminar conducted via the Internet. Webinars can be used to conduct meetings, connect with an audience, or give presentations. The word 'webinar' is a neologism, used to describe a specific type of web conference. It is typically a one-way dialogue between a speaker and an audience with limited audience interaction. What makes a webinar different from a 'webcast' (a media file distributed over the Internet via streaming technology), is that a webinar can be collaborative if so desired. It can include a question and answer session, polling, and full audience participation at select times.
At EIA we use webinars to connect with and help potential students understand the complicated world of LEED. In our webinar we specifically address the benefits of attaining a LEED AP credential. Becoming LEED AP accredited is a multi-step process that can be confusing and daunting. In a 30-minute webinar, our presenters walk the audience through each step of the process, and demonstrate the fastest, easiest way to obtain LEED AP accreditation.
