LEED for Neighborhood Development

The LEED for Neighborhood Development Rating System is a new rating system recently approved by the USGBC.   This system integrates the principles of smart growth, urbanism and green building into the first national system for neighborhood design.  The new system is a result of collaboration between the USGBC, Congress for the New Urbanism, and the Natural Resources Defense Council.  Registration for new projects is anticipated to begin in 2010.

Along with this system comes a new professional credential -  LEED AP+ Neighborhood Development.   This exam to obtain this credential is currently being beta tested and is expected to be available in 2010.   This credential will be ideal for developers, planners, architects and others involved in the vertical and horizontal development of a neighborhood development projects.  Likewise,  EIA will offer courses to help professionals obtain this credential later this year.
